Sleep!
This is SO important for a strong immune system.
When we dont get enough sleep, it is a traumatic event for our bodies, and we secrete high levels of cortisol which causes low level chronic inflammation in our body, which does not favor a healthy immune system.
We used to go to bed when the sun set (before the invention of artificial light), and wake up with first light. The seasons change, but we are not changing with it thanks to synthetic light and our busy schedules. We wake up, and wake our kids in pitch darkness, sometimes even leaving the house in the mornings while it is still dark. I really don't think that is normal and believe that we need more zzz in the winter compared to summer months. We are in our winter, physically and seasonally.
According to the National sleep foundation, More sleep is natural in the wintertime, and we need an average of 1.75 to 2.5 hours addition sleep per night.
So I prioritise sleep for me and my family to keep our immune systems as strong as possible.
